Andrew

Another past pupil is Andrew, who’s family have given us this update

Andrew’s 22 years old now and has developed into a happy, well mannered, confident and sociable young man. He loves to read and this almost definitely stems from his time sharing the huge story books with Adele, who it has to be said had a hugely positive impact on Andrew’s life. He now has a placement at PRS Café which is at MEA House in Newcastle. This is Supported Learning for Employment which he does 3 days per week. He attends Inspired Support the remaining 2 days of the week where he is learning ICT skills and believe or not he has been introduced to Boxing where has received various skill awards

He’s also a very capable swimmer – he still swims as part of a club twice a week and has taken part in five National learning disability championships at Manchester and Swansea. Again, his love of swimming stems from Gibside School.

There is no doubt that Andrew was helped and inspired by the commitment and dedication of the staff at Gibside School. As parents, we will always be grateful for the support we were given and the wonderful start Andrew had.

Andrew recalls

“ I loved being at Gibside School when I was little. My favourite teachers were Adele (who I called Tidell!), Caroline, Sue,  Jeanette and Lynn.

I loved reading the big books with my teachers and friends –  “Room on the Broom”, “The Gruffalo” and “The Hungry Caterpillar” were my favourites! They were exciting and good fun and we used to dress up as the characters.

Christmas was always great fun, singing carols at the Metro Centre and shops.

I really enjoyed sports and going swimming and I still swim today for a club and take part in competitions. “
